"Here at PRFI ... People, who care, perform small miracles for those in need."
"Since 1960, The Puerto Rican Family Institute has been responding to the needs of the growing Latino population both on the U.S. mainland and in Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican Family Institute has remained true to its mission to serve the Latino community through the development of highly effective, focused interventions that are culturally and linguistically appropriate. From preventing foster care placement, promoting family unification, treating the emotionally afflicted, connecting the homeless with long lost family members and much needed community resources, providing care to persons living with HIV/AIDS, and giving a head start in education to children among many other worthy endeavors. We approach the work of the Institute with care, dedication and commitment. Bilingual professionals, volunteers, and board members team up to pave the way toward increasing access to opportunities and a high quality of life. Twenty five thousand individuals come through our doors on a yearly basis.
The success rate of our programs is high-for children at risk of foster care placement, 98% remain home. The cycle of multiple psychiatric hospitalizations is also broken for a good 98% of our clients. The institute is an organization with strong community roots. In 1991, the Hope for Families and Children Foundation acquired a building with the goals of promoting a greater degree of stability to the organization. Many have invested time, effort and money to see that the Institute becomes a primary source for the community. The Institute looks forward to providing the continuum of services it has pioneered over the years to help secure and maintain healthy environments for Latino children and families to grow and prosper in the new millennium. The journey must continue."
